Learn to paint expressive portraits in the Alla Prima (Wet on Wet) style at my studio in the largest Art Colony in the world, right in Downtown Los Angeles!

This 6 hour workshop is for all skill levels.

Depending on the group, we can explore monochromatic painting techniques as well, it’s a great way for beginners to focus on values and abstract shapes without the struggle of incorporating color.

Lessons include:

• Introduction to Color Mixing/ Color Theory

• Demonstrations in oils. You are welcome to bring your own acrylic paints if you prefer that method

• Silicone blade painting/blurring, palette knife work & incorporating an ethereal background.

Included in tuition:

• Oil paints (if you prefer acrylics, please bring your own)

• Coffee, cappuccino, tea, water & sparkling water

Items to bring:

• Brushes (soft sable or similar, sizes 2- 10 or 1/2 inch, assortment of filberts & flats

• Easel (standing or table)

• Odorless Mineral Spirits in a container

• Paper towels (I love Viva)

• Palette or Palette Paper

9:00 am - 12:30 : Kelly will demonstrate using a photo reference.

12:00-1:00 pm Lunch (bring sack lunch & enjoy the beautiful outdoors here, walk to Barbara’s, our on-campus Restaurant/Bar, or enjoy a local eatery, we’re minutes from China Town, the San Antonio Winery, and many other yummy eateries.

1:30 -5:00 you’ll paint with Kelly’s guidance.

Classes will be hosted on most Tuesdays.
